Starting in August 2025, a new international upper primary track will be established for grades 7 through 9 in Lyngby-Taarbæk Kommune. The track will be integrated into Lindegårdsskolen which is placed centrally in Lyngby.

The international upper primary track is part of an ambition to provide a good offer for students with a particular interest in an international profile. Thus, including Danish and foreign expat families. Since there is a growing number of families in the municipality, where the primary language spoken at home is not Danish, Lyngby-Taarbæk Kommune wish to create a sound school alternative, where the language spoken at school will be English up to 50 percent of the time.

With the new upper primary track, Lyngby-Taarbæk Kommune aims to support the municipality's profile as a city of knowledge and education and to increase enrollment in the municipality's public schools.

    Establishing a new international school-option

The idea to establish an international upper school line came politically in dialogue with Lindegårdsskolen, as our school has had a desire for an international profile for a long time.

The international aspect was very obvious for us, as we are very focused on working with diversity in our communities. We have a global outlook and are located in the center of Lyngby with the so-called City of knowledge all around us. Many families at the school are multilingual.

The administration has been an important partner and has, for example, managed all the legal and practical aspects regarding the establishment. The final decision to establish the school was made in the municipal council in the fall of 2024 after establishing a post for it in the budget.

About the political decision to establish an international upper-primary track at Lindegårdsskolen the Chair of the School Committee in Lyngby-Taarbæk Kommune, Mette Schmidt Olsen, says:

"Our ambition is to offer a quality educational program to students with a particular interest in an international profile, including both Danish and foreign expat families. At the same time, the new international school program aligns well with Lyngby-Taarbæk's work with Science City Lyngby."

Why make an international track here?

The international upper secondary program will commence in the 2025/2026 school year with a three-year phasing-in period. The class will be established if there are at least 15 applicants. There can be a maximum of 28 students in the international class.

Deputy Principal Rasmus Langager Larsen, who is the responsible leader for the international program at Lindegårdsskolen, says:

"We are very pleased that Lindegårdsskolen, as the first in Lyngby-Taarbæk Kommune, has the opportunity to become a so-called Profile School. Which grants us the opportunity to take this exiting step.

Lindegårdsskolen has worked with diversity and globality for many years, so it is fitting that the international program is placed at Lindegårdsskolen. With the international program, we have a unique opportunity to enhance students' English skills and provide them with an international profile, making it natural for them to apply to a secondary education with an international focus.

We look forward to working with the upcoming students and this exciting new offering."
